Holiday Villas to Rent within Polis, Latchi and Argaka in Paphos Cyprus

Polis, Latchi and Argaka: peace and quiet on the beautiful western side of Cyprus

Just 22 miles from Paphos, via a scenic drive through the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, Polis is the main town and a perfect place to stock up on supplies on your way to your rental villa in Latchi or Argaka. Polis is a small town that feels very spacious, the perfect size to potter around after a morning on the beach or beside your Polis rental villa swimming pool.

From the free car park in town, just stroll up towards the Polis market building, where you can stock up on fruit and vegetables for your Polis rental villa kitchen. Beyond, the street gently curves up the hill past restaurants and bars nestling in the shade, to Polis town square. Just left of here are high quality jewellery shops, their windows filled with gold that glistens invitingly in the sunshine. Make time too to visit the small but fascinating local museum, which houses finds from the 7th century BC ancient city of Marion, now directly under your feet!

Polis Chrysochous Municipal Beach is just a short walk from the centre of town, and has Blue Flag status, so it's clean and well cared for. No battling for sun loungers and sun umbrellas here, and they are spaced well apart, so you never need hear someone else's sun cream being applied! The sandy beach at Polis is fringed with pebble, so bring a pair of sand shoes for children.

If Polis sounds a little busy for you (!) look at rental villas in Latchi and the hills up to Neo Chorio. Latchi (sometimes shown on Cyprus maps as Lakki) was originally a sponge-fishing village, and had grown into a long street with a lovely small beach at one end and the old carob warehouse at the other, with shops, restaurants and a marine in between. Villas for rent in Latchi are usually more spacious, and with more private space around them than similar villas in Paphos. You can stock up your rental villa fridge at one of the minimarkets in Latchi, but many holidaymakers opt instead for a meal at one of the famous Latchi fish tavernas beside the harbour. Yiangos & Peter's has a great reputation for fresh fish and tasty chips. The Port Latchi restaurant occupies the old carob warehouse, and waiters who skip across the road to serve customers who prefer the outside dining area beside the pebbly beach.

Turn north from Polis and you'll drive along the wide sweep of Chrysochou Bay past plantations of bananas as well as citrus and olive groves to Argaka. Here, you're more likely to hear the waves on the beach than a passing car, and since there are dozens of little beaches to choose from here, you need not share your sand with anyone else! Argaka is divided into Pano Argaka (up the hill) and Kato Argaka, nearer the coast. Pano Argaka is old style Cyprus, with limestone houses and a taverna that's the hub of village life, and the village is in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. The main beach at Kato Argaka enjoys a gentle sea breeze and welcome shade during the summer from the waving palm trees, or drive to the small but well-named Relax Beach at Pomos. Pomos itself is a small village with a bank and one of the best tavernas on the whole bay, Paradise Place. The menu is unashamedly Greek and the music collection so extensive that the taverna even holds its own jazz festival every July.
